HPD helps our heroes

Dear All

After an enjoyable call that came out of the blue from an old friend who I went through basic training with, but haven’t seen for about 28 years, I have been inspired me to do my bit for charity again this year. Those of you who know me well will know my feelings about seeing our fine young men of this country coming home injured or killed from action.  Therefore I am going to do my little bit to help, well actually it’s not too little!

On the 12th of November I will be joining 300 other ex and serving Royal Marines along with members of the three emergency services to complete a half marathon speedmarch through London. A half marathon is challenging enough, but to run in boots and combat gear at someone else’s pace and in time together is no mean feat for someone who hasn’t done that kind of thing for nearly twenty years. But as I was reminded “once a Marine, always a Marine”!

So I’ve dug out my old boots and beret that haven’t seen the light of day for God knows how long and about to get into some intensive training as three weeks isn’t long to prepare.

I feel a bit of pain coming my way, but hey, it is for such a great cause.
